![]() ![]() The standard modeling tools available are ‘move’ and ‘scale’, ‘delete’, ‘delete edge loops’ and ‘split edge loops’, ‘edge tools’, ‘plane tools’, and ‘edge loop tools’. The modeler tools include ‘move’ and ‘scale’, which let you manipulate the vertices of the model, the ‘delete’, ‘delete edge loops’ and ‘split edge loops’ tools which let you simplify the model or change the shape of the model, and the ‘edge tools’, ‘plane tools’, and ‘edge loop tools’ which lets you create and modify models. To add a new material to the model, press the material button and the menu will appear To remove material from the model, press the delete tool and the material name will appear in the menu To create a standard box you will need a surface mesh and you will also need at least three vertices – three dots – on the box for the front face, and on each of the four sides. You can still have the model – just not use it. Many of the features of the software are disabled when not in use so while you can create complex models in max you can’t actually use the model. It’s important to understand that not all 3d max features are available all the time – only those which are enabled are active. If you are a newcomer to 3d max then it can be a bit of a challenge but once you know the interface you can move around the software quickly and easily. In many ways it is similar to photoshop in that there is an extensive array of control options, though some are quite more accessible in 3ds max than photoshop. Most of the basic settings are available through the right-hand button menus on the interface and the basic controls are easy to use. The basic window features have an easy to understand format and work well with the interface. The main interface consists of three windows which let you enter data, view your model and work in detail. ![]() It’s certainly one of the best known and respected, however. It’s important to know the software you are using, and while 3ds max is the industry standard for 3d modeling it is not always the most user-friendly software. ![]()
